Ole timer from the 60s
Hello Guys, I'd like to say Hi to any of the old members who might remember me. I've just received the Star article about "Jake" the weather vane. I enjoyed reading about something I'd taken for granted all those years ago. I'm grateful to Dusty for taking the time to do all that research and bring the history to light. I served as a volunteer with his Dad(?) Donnie all those years ago. This prompted me to look at your website and I was amazed to find a photo of me in the Video section under Willy's Mix. It's the black & white one at the 4 minute & 11 second mark. I'm the one standing on the tailboard looking back at Steve Dehaven (I think it was) doing a faceplant at the hydrant. I think the guy next to me on the board is David Shanholtz and the guy next to Steve may have been Butch Campbell. This photo ws taken at the CVVFA convention in Martinsburg in August of 1966 and may have been the one printed in the Star. The driver is Stewart Dyke and the pumper is our old 1952 Pirsch, Engine 3. I was a member of the old fire squad right from my 16th birthday in October 1962 until I went into the USAF the week after that photo was taken. "Gundy" Seabright and "Pappy" Dyke were the engineers then. I got my start in the fire company by being in the Jr. & Sr. drum corps. I'm now retired from the fire service and living in Oregon. I see in the article that "Jake" is to be removed from the tower for rehabilitation and wondered if anyone plans to make a full sized drawing of him? I'd be very interested in acquiring such a drawing as I'd like to replicate him for my own weather vane. If anyone can help me with the drawing request please email me at SeeCaptBob@aol.com and you will certainly get a prompt reply. Many thanks for the memories and continued good luck. Bob See

Hello from Charlottesville, VA
Hi! I am a volunteer firefighter with the Charlottesville Volunteer Fire Company in Charlottesville, VA! Home of the UVA Cavaliers. Anyway, saw a link off of VAFireNews.com about the Winchester Star and an old monument that has been around for a long time. Thought that I would swing on by and look around. Great website! Keep up the good work and be safe!

GMC Truck
Hello, I have the old Rouss GMC truck. It in very poor shape at the moment, body wise. I've been in before with a friend and looked at some of the old photos of the truck. Was wondering if some of them could be posted on the site.

I am a childhood friend of Ricky's from Ashburn and I was saddened to hear the news of his passing. I guess Heaven was needing one more great firefighter like Ricky. Thank you all for everything you do. Ricky you will be missed. I will never forget the days of playing baseball with you for the Waxpool Mustangs or playing around in the halls of Broad Run High School. We love you Rest In Peace.

Passing of a good friend
It is with deep regret that I announce the passing of Richard Muth. Early this morning Ricky was involved in a fatal accident at work. As a long-standing member of Company 6, Ricky is survived by his wife, two children, grandfather, mother and brother Ray, Jr. He was also an active member of the Rouss Volunteer Fire Department in Winchester. We have been involved with the Muth family from the beginning stages of this tragedy. Details regarding the funeral services have not yet been finalized and we will communicate these details out to the entire system as soon as they're available. The Ashburn Fire Rescue Department extends our deepest sympathy to the entire Muth family, the Loudoun County Fire and EMS System, and the Rouss Volunteer Fire Department.
